Eli S. Loebenberg, CEO of Madison SPECS, has over 20 years of broad-based tax experience, serving middle-market as well as large private and public companies. After holding management-level positions at three Big Four firms, Mr. Loebenberg partnered in 2006 with Madison Commercial Real Estate Services, a global real estate services firm headquartered in Lakewood, NJ, and form Madison SPECS LLC, a new entity focused on Cost Segregation studies.
In this capacity, Mr. Loebenberg works with clients and their CPAs to understand a company's business and tax objectives and identify tax solutions consistent with those objectives. Leading a multidiscipline team, Mr. Loebenberg delivers large scale tax benefits. He has developed an extensive network of C-level relationships in a variety of industries, including consumer goods, manufacturing, real estate, banking and financial services.
Mr. Loebenberg started his career in New York with Deloitte and Touche in 1996, where he served middle-market clients in a variety of industries but with particular focus on the Real Estate, Banking and Securities. Clients included Apollo Advisors, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, and Merrill Lynch. In 2000, he left Deloitte and joined IDT Corporation, a publicly-traded multi-billion dollar telecom company, where he was primarily responsible for high-level M&A tax planning and tax minimization.
From 2001-2004, Mr. Loebenberg was with KPMG in their Federal Solutions Group. As a Senior Manager, he focused on practice development and delivering innovative tax solutions to companies in the Northeast region. His principal implementation experience lay in the areas of Research and Experimentation Credits, Cost Segregation Studies and Embedded Cost Reviews, but was also active in identification and delivery of such services as Meals and Entertainment analysis, Accounting Methods, Captive Insurance, as well as cross-selling across functional tax lines, including SALT, Compensation and Benefits Tax, International Tax and M&A Tax. Clients at KPMG included The Children’s Place, Safra National Bank, Forex Capital Markets, Citigroup, Agfa Corporation, Chubb and Lazard Freres.
In 2004, Mr. Loebenberg was hired by Grant Thornton LLP to be the Regional Solutions Liaison representing Strategic Federal Tax Services (SFTS), GT's National Tax Consulting group, for the Northeast region. There, he was responsible for identifying, selling and implementing in the New York, Philadelphia and Boston offices a variety of tax planning solutions, primarily focusing on Cost Segregation Studies and Research Credits. Clients included The New York Times, Wolfson Group, Reuters, King Kullen Group and Edison Properties.
Mr. Loebenberg received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Accounting and Business Administration from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant by Maryland’s State Board of Public Accountancy. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Most recently, Mr. Loebenberg was selected as an “Industry Leader” in 2010 by Real Estate Weekly, a publication serving the real estate industry.
